Boniferro and Smokin’ Joe’s Pro Modified takes third in 2008 PMRA season
“I enjoyed running with the PMRA this year.
It’s a good group of guys.”
NIAGARA FALLS, ONTARIO (November 3, 2008) – Although not as dominate in Pro Modified Racing Association competition in 2008 as in previous years, Joe Boniferro had a steady season and placed third in the 2008 PMRA Point Award Series Championship sponsored by Wix Filtration Products, Valvoline, Uni-Select, and Moen Incorporated.
“We feel fortunate to finish third in the series,” said Boniferro, driver of the 1999 Dodge Avenger Pro Modified. “We were a little behind with our testing this year due to business commitments.”
The first two-time PMRA event winner (Grand Bend Motorplex in 2006 and 2007) has been racing since 1985, and running in the Top Sportsman and Pro Modified ranks since the mid 1990s. He was the 2006 PMRA Champion.
“I enjoyed running with the PMRA this year,” he continued. “And I enjoyed the competitors we raced with. It’s a good group of guys.”
The Smokin’ Joe’s Racing Avenger is powered by a Keith Black 526-cubic inch Supercharged BI Wedge engine, sitting in a Tim McAmis/Lowdown Hot Rods chassis. The team is sponsored by Joe’s Transmission, Koffel’s Place, and ERD (Engine Research and Development).
“I’d like to thank all my supporters and sponsors,” Boniferro added. “Without them we couldn’t do this.”
Boniferro and the rest of the Niagara Falls-based Smokin’ Joe’s Racing team will be honored at the upcoming PMRA Champions Banquet on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at The Best Western Cairn Croft Hotel in the Oak Room in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Receiving top honors November 15 will be Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario. Driving his B&B Racing 1963 Corvette, Boland won the 2008 PMRA Points Championship sponsored by Wix Filtration Products, Valvoline, Uni-Select, and Moen Incorporated. The championship is Boland’s second consecutive title.
Placing second in PMRA points was Terry Brown of Caledonia, Ontario, with his 1971 Dodge Challenger, and third was Joe Boniferro of Niagara Falls, Ontario, with his 1999 Dodge Avenger. Jeff Roth of Kitchener, Ontario placed fourth with his 1957 Chevy.
For 2008, its fourth year of competition, a record number of Pro Modified teams competed in the PMRA at six events in Ontario, Quebec, and New York State.
Situated at 6400 Lundy’s Lane in Niagara Falls, the Best Western Cairn Croft Hotel is one of the most popular courtyard style hotels in Niagara Falls, and offers a host of amenities for tourists, business events, and social gatherings.
