Terry Brown and team place second in
2008 PMRA points race
Year highlighted by Sanair win for Dodge Challenger
PMRA Pro Modified team
CALEDONIA, ONTARIO (November 7, 2008) –Jason Greenland, crew chief on the Terry Brown Racing 1971 Dodge Challenger, said his team would have probably taken the 2008 Pro Modified Racing Association championship if the team had made the elimination rounds in the first two PMRA events this season.
“If we had qualified for the first two events, we probably would have won the title,” said Greenland. “I’m sure we would have beat Bruce (Boland) in points if we had qualified.”
Boland, of Hamilton, Ontario, won the 2008 PMRA Point Award Series Championship sponsored by Wix Filtration Products, Valvoline, Uni-Select, and Moen Incorporated. The Brown team did not qualify for the first two races this year at either New York International Raceway Park or at Dunn Tire Raceway Park, both run eighth-mile.
But in the remaining events, driver Terry Brown qualified the Keith Black 526-cubic inch Supercharged Hemi-powered Challenger well, never below third in four races.
After qualifying third at Sanair, the team took their first PMRA victory. At the Grand Bend Motorplex, the team also qualified third, and made it to the semi-final round. While at the rain-delayed KC Auto Family Day event at Cayuga Dragway, the team recorded the top qualifying speed with a 233.69-mph clocking and number two qualifying spot, and went to the semi-finals. In the final race of the season, the rain-delayed Victoria Day Weekend event, also at Cayuga, the team qualified third, but went out first round.
But the effort was enough to finish second in points for 2008, second in the 24-car field.
“We had lots of fun this year, and enjoyed ourselves,” said Brown, a former OSCA Champion who has been racing about 10 years. “And we’ll be back for next year.”
“I especially want to thank Jason Greenland and Paul Brown for their help this season. I also want to thank Melanie for her help,” added Brown.
Greenland was also pleased with the team’s efforts this year, especially when trying to get the Challenger set up and tuned for eighth-mile passes, something that was foreign to the team which had run solely quarter-mile events until this season with the PMRA.
“We had a great time, and the PMRA is a great series,” Greenland noted. “We look forward to next season,” hinting the team may have some surprises in store.
Brown, Greenland, and the rest of the team will be honored at the upcoming PMRA Champions Banquet on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at The Best Western Cairn Croft Hotel in the Oak Room in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Receiving top honors November 15 will be Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario. Driving his B&B Racing 1963 Corvette, Boland won the 2008 PMRA Points Championship sponsored by Wix Filtration Products, Valvoline, Uni-Select, and Moen Incorporated. The championship is Boland’s second consecutive title.
Placing second in PMRA points was Terry Brown of Caledonia, Ontario, with his 1971 Dodge Challenger, and third was Joe Boniferro of Niagara Falls, Ontario, with his 1999 Dodge Avenger. Jeff Roth of Kitchener, Ontario placed fourth with his 1957 Chevy.
For 2008, its fourth year of competition, a record number of Pro Modified teams competed in the PMRA at six events in Ontario, Quebec, and New York State.
Situated at 6400 Lundy’s Lane in Niagara Falls, the Best Western Cairn Croft Hotel is one of the most popular courtyard style hotels in Niagara Falls, and offers a host of amenities for tourists, business events, and social gatherings.
