Paton Racing Top Fueler to join PMRA, Quick 32, and PBSS during Grand Bend’s Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals this weekend
Visitors to the 18th annual Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals this weekend at the Grand Bend Motorplex will be treated to a rare visit by one of the few Top Fuel Dragster teams based in Canada on Saturday night.
Long-time TF team Paton Racing, from Paris Ontario, will be on hand for the weekend show, which is presented by NAPA Auto Parts and Ideal Supply. Headed by team owner Barry Paton, the dragster will be driven by son Todd Paton, who has several years experience behind the wheel, after stepping up from his Alcohol Funny Car with two IHRA Funny Car championships. He stepped into the dragster in 2003, and has recorded a career best ET in the car with a 4.66 second pass and a best speed posting of 322 mph.
There will be full, points-meet events in the Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series.
Also competing over the weekend will be the Outlaw 10.5 Association and a full complement of Bracket and Junior Dragster racing, plus Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars and Alcohol Funny Cars.
Thursday, August 7 the weekend gets underway with a Fan Appreciation and Car Show night with live music hosted by Boston Pizza in Stratford. On Friday August 8 the first qualifying round in the PMRA, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, the PBSS, and Outlaw 10.5 takes place at 7:15 pm, followed by entertainment presented by Ideal Supply in the NAPA tent.
On Saturday August 9, Time Trial sessions for Bracket racers in the morning, qualifying continues at 4 pm for the PMRA, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, the PBSS and the Outlaw 10.5 Association , as well as round one for the Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars and Alcohol Funny Cars. After the third qualifier and a return of the show cars, plus the Top Fuel Dragster at 7 pm, the evening closes with fireworks and entertainment.
At 11:15 am Sunday August 10 elimination rounds begin, and the show cars will make their appearance at 2 pm. Final eliminations are scheduled to take place at 4:30 pm.
Three-time PMRA champion Bruce Boland of Stoney Creek Ontario presently leads the Championship Point Award Series in the PMRA, which is now in its 10th year. In the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, presented by NAPA Auto Parts, Top Dragster driver Tony Positano of Toronto Ontario heads up the points for the series’ sixth season, and 2013 PBSS champ Dan Cryderman of Thamesville Ontario heads up the fourth season of the PBSS with his Pro Bike entry. The PBSS is presented by Wiseco Performance Products.
